EN 60900 is a European standard which describes the requirements for hand tools used to work on energized parts. This standard describes the requirements and test procedures for isolated pliers, among others.
General requirement: regulates basic things, which should ensure the usability of the tool.
Visual inspection for correct assembly and labelling.
Impact test for the stability test of the isolating material (plastic).
Electrical voltage test at 10,000 V in a water bath ensures the insulation capability.
Pressure test in a heating cabinet, in order to test the plastic for deformability at a heat influence of 70°C for 2 hours.
Test for adhesion of the insulating material to ensure that the pliers insulation cannot be removed even at 70°C heat influence.
Testing for flammability of the plastic. Test to ensure that the plastic is flame-resistant.
Mechanical testing, tests for compliance with the respective DIN/ISO regulations for the metallic part of the pliers.
Testing for durability of the inscription, ensures that it is difficult to remove a marking. The electrical voltage test at 10 KV for the duration of 10 seconds and the visual inspection for correct assembly and inscriptions are performed as routine tests.
