Basic Rules

The basic rules for the guidance and protection of the carving tools for amateur and professional carvers:

Right-handed carvers guide the carving tool with the right hand and left-handed carvers with their left hand, so that the guiding hand is indicating the direction of the cut. This technic will indicate the intersection angle, the cutting direction and the working pressure for the chip removal. While the cut is made, the other hand secures and protects the iron. It helps to find the perfect placement to start the cut and intersection approach. In addition, this hand helps to stop the cut in place and in the desired depth. The provided images are used only as guide and must not be closely imitated. However, the basic handling of the carving tools, are close to the preference in the drawings and do not differ considerably.
